Winter Blues

I have not posted for a couple of weeks.  I'm sorry.  I have been working on pursuing this first talent.  I actually finished a quilt this weekend, and will post pictures once I download them on my computer.  As a side note, I think this is the best one I have done yet:)

I guess the biggest reason I have not posted is that I have been in a winter slump.  You know the slump. It is almost March.  There is still snow on the ground, and the sun has refused to really come out for months now.  Winter is no longer welcome, but it just hangs around.  That kind of slump.  It is kind of depressing waking up every morning to grey skies and white grounds.

I found myself slipping into my old way of thinking; "What is my purpose right now? I don't think I really have one right now."

The one thing I have learned since starting this blog is that I have a lot more control over my happiness and emotions than I gave myself credit for.  If I make a goal, it is up to me to finish it, not anyone else.  It is up to me to decide if I am going to let a gray sky get me down or just enjoy the variety in seasons.  That is the attitude I have decided to stick with.

I am happier that way:)

Hard At Work

The Finished Product

I am pretty happy with this blanket! I bought a kit that for beginner quilters, and I felt it was the perfect start for a sewer like myself. It is definately not perfect with plenty of flaws that are visible, but I loved how much I learned making this.

It feels good to do something you put your mind to!

My New Domain

This is where I have spent all my time with Pursuit #1.  I love my little sewing machine and sewing box.

It almost makes it more fun to sew when you feel cute doing it:)

The Power to Create

Create

I have posted about this talk before, but I watched this video today and felt that it was worth sharing again.

The one thing that stood out to me the most is that we were created by the most creative beings; Heavenly Father.  The next time you think you aren't creative, think again!

Blanket #3 Done!!!

Greg took a ton of pictures while I was finishing my most recent blanket, but I haven't had time to upload them yet.  I am just so darn excited that I finished this one that I had to post this!! I must admit that I am pretty proud of myself! As always, there is no need to look too closely at my seams but it doesn look pretty good if I might say so myself:)!

Pictures to come soon!:)

I just finished reading this book for a book club that I am a part of, and it made me think of my current goal of trying new things. I didn't come away from the book with the desire to knit. (I have tried it before and don't have a lot of positive feelings from that experience. Maybe next year.)

I did finish reading this book though with the feeling that all women need something in their life to help them find purpose or to help them find meaning in what they are doing. This seems to be something that we all share.

***Disclaimer: There is some language in this book so don't think that I am saying this is the best book for everyone.***

Everyone wants to be good at something. I finished reading it and I found myself thinking, "What am I good at?"

Here is the list that I came up with:

-I am pretty good at doing laundry. I don't necessarily find myself counting down the days and minutes to when I can do it again, but I can sure get clothes clean.
-I feel that I am pretty good at trying to keep my body healthy. I love working out and I love how it feels to be active and to eat healthy. I am no pro in this department, but I feel for my body I do an ok job. (There is always room for improvement, and hope to make these improvements once I am not carrying another person inside me.)
-Being a mom. Every child is different and every mother is different, but Deagan and I make a pretty good combo, and I go to bed (most) nights feeling like I did a pretty good job at this mom stuff. (We will see how much longer I feel that way once our new one is born.) I must say that this is a new self-discovery I have had. I haven't always felt this way and don't always feel this way, but there are those days when you just click with your child and today just happens to be one of them.
-I am a good reader. I love to read and feel that if that was a talent, I would be close to pro at it by now.
-I am good at keeping a clean home. I find I can think better and relax more and have with my family when I have a clean space to play in. Clutter is not my friend. I feel that I feel closer to my Heavenly Father even in a clean space.
-(Greg will have to be the judge of this) but I feel that I am good wife. I try to support my hubby in the things that he loves doing, and I find that I am happier when I am supportive. Funny how that works. While I don't feel I deserve wife of the year, I do love my husband and feel that that is worth something.

If you have a day where you find yourself wondering what there is about you that is so great, just start writing down the things that you are good at. They may be small or they may be big, but they are you and they are what make you YOU.

And if you want to read a book about a bunch of women from different walks of life, try reading "The Friday Night Knitting Club." It might inspire you to try something new:)
